If you are a parent, you have for sure experienced at least one tantrum from your kids. Probably LOTS of tantrums. If you have been struggling with how to handle them or feeling like how you are currently handling them isn’t working, you’re in the right place.
Maya Angelou said, “When you know better, you do better.”
In today’s episode, I’m sharing:
- What tantrums are, how to tame them, and how to show up during them (whether your kids are 2 or 15!)
- Why our kids don’t have to be and shouldn’t be expected to be happy all the time and how having “tantrums” will actually benefit them as adults (if we learn to help them through it!)
- What emotional literacy is and how we can teach it to our kids, similarly to teaching reading literacy
- The steps you can start taking TODAY to really connect with your kids and them learn to process their messy moments and complex emotions

Thank you Kelly for another podcast that hits so close to home! I’ve been attending your bootcamps for several years now, and I had forgotten the part about modeling how to handle big emotions during calm waters, like with stuffed animals and role playing! I now know what I need to go do with my 4 year old like as soon as he wakes up! This river of misery is slowly getting clearer and I can now say that most of the time I have this detaching thing down!
I love seeing you on your journey!!!
It all makes sense now, Kelly. Thank you for this talk.
The aha moment/ lighting bolt was comparing the emotions to reading literacy. There were just so many good ones that I couldn’t pick just one. The other one I’ll mention is my side of the street, how I react and act I’m modeling to my kids. Look forward to the next episode and get into the parenting boot camp. Also going to buy the conscious parent book soon.
